The 2018 JDR Viola Competition

About the Competition

The competition will be held on Saturday April 7, 2018 at the McKinney Arts Center in McKinney, TX. It is open to viola students ages 10 - 18 that are currently enrolled in  an Elementary school, middle school or high school in the Dallas/ Fort Worth Metroplex area.
The JDR Viola Competiton is sponsored by JDR Music, LLC and the Odysseus Chamber Orchestra. 
The winners of the JDR Viola Competition senior division will be featured soloists at a concert with the Odysseus Chamber Orchestra in the 2018-2019 season.
​There will be two divisions: Junior Division and Senior Division.

Competition Rules

  • Competition will be held Saturday April 7, 2017 at the Mckinney Performing Arts Center
  • Entrants must be enrolled in an Elementary school, a middle school or high school in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area
  • All music must be performed by memory
  • Senior Division (Grade 9-12):
  • Three (3) first place winners will be chosen. Honorable mention may be awarded at the discretion of the judges
  • Prizes will be a awarded.
  • Entrants will choose one movement of Bach Cello Suite (choices can be found on the application) and one concerto of the entrant's choice
  • Entrants are responsible to provide their own accompanists
  • The fee for entrance to the JDR Viola Competition Senior Division is $60.00
  • Junior Division (Grade 5-8):
  • One first place, one second place and one third place will be chosen. Honorable mention may be awarded at the discretion of the judges.
  • Entrance will choose one etude (choices can be found on the application) and one solo piece of the entrant's choice
  • Entries must be received by 11:59 PM on Monday, March 5, 2018
  • Judges may limit performance times due to time constraints at their discretion
